Courier tracking and WhatsApp shipping updates for Shopify

Whapi, a Shopify app for WhatsApp automation, sends shipping updates from the fulfillment and tracking data on your Shopify orders. It has no direct courier integrations. Any courier works as long as the tracking number, and the full tracking URL for couriers Shopify doesn’t recognize, is saved on the Shopify fulfillment.

The short answer

  • Whapi reads tracking from the Shopify fulfillment. It doesn’t connect to courier systems and has no direct integration with any courier.
  • When an order is fulfilled in Shopify with tracking details, Whapi sends a WhatsApp message with the order number and the tracking link.
  • Shopify builds tracking links automatically only for carriers on its supported list, such as DHL Express, DPD, GLS, Royal Mail, Evri, PostNL and Colissimo. Fan Courier, Sameday, SMSA and TCS are not on it (checked October 20, 2026).
  • For couriers Shopify doesn’t recognize, choose Other and save the full tracking URL on the fulfillment. That URL is the link your customer gets.
  • Whapi doesn’t send out for delivery or delivered messages. The customer follows later steps on the courier’s tracking page.
How it works

How Whapi turns Shopify tracking data into a WhatsApp update

Whapi sends the shipping update when the order is fulfilled in Shopify with tracking details. The courier only matters for one thing: whether a working tracking link ends up on the fulfillment.

  1. 1

The order is fulfilled in Shopify with tracking

You, your 3PL or your courier’s Shopify app marks the order as fulfilled and saves the tracking number, and the tracking URL where needed, on the fulfillment.
  2. 2

    Shopify holds the tracking link

For carriers on Shopify’s supported list, Shopify builds the tracking URL from the number. For other couriers, the URL saved on the fulfillment is used.
  3. 3

Whapi sends the WhatsApp shipping update

Whapi picks up the fulfillment and sends your shipping update template with the order number and the tracking link. Wording is on the shipping update templates page.
  4. 4

The customer follows the parcel on the courier’s page

Every later step, such as out for delivery, shows on the courier’s own tracking page behind the link. Whapi doesn’t send a separate WhatsApp message for those steps.
Shopify’s carrier list

Courier WhatsApp tracking on Shopify: which carriers Shopify recognizes

Shopify keeps a list of tracking companies. For a company on the list, Shopify builds the tracking URL from the tracking number. Shopify’s docs also warn that not all carriers are supported, that an unsupported carrier can produce an invalid tracking URL, and recommend sending both the company and the URL. Some companies appear only on a country list, which Shopify shows to shops located in that country.

Checked against Shopify’s FulfillmentTrackingInfo documentation on October 20, 2026. “Works with Whapi” means only that Whapi can send a shipping update from the tracking details on the Shopify fulfillment. Whapi has no direct integration with any of these couriers and has not tested each one. A courier’s own Shopify app or your team must save the tracking details.
Unrecognized couriers

What to do when Shopify doesn’t recognize your courier

Save the full tracking URL on the fulfillment. Shopify’s Help Center says that if your carrier isn’t fully supported, or you choose Other as the shipping carrier, you can enter the tracking URL manually, and Shopify uses it on the order status page. Every courier marked No in the table above needs this setup, from Fan Courier and Sameday in Romania to Aramex, SMSA and TCS.

  1. 1

Open the order and fulfill it

In Shopify admin, open the order and start fulfilling it, or open an existing fulfillment to add tracking.
  2. 2

Choose Other as the shipping carrier

If your courier isn’t in the Shipping carrier drop-down menu, select Other. Shopify then lets you enter the tracking URL by hand.
  3. 3

Paste the tracking number and the full tracking URL

Copy the address of your courier’s tracking page for this parcel, including the tracking number in the URL. Shopify shows this link on the order status page, and it is the link your customer gets on WhatsApp.
  4. 4

Save the fulfillment and check one message

Fulfill a test order first and open the tracking link in the WhatsApp message to confirm it lands on the right parcel.

If a courier’s Shopify app or your 3PL creates the fulfillments, you don’t enter anything by hand, but check one order: Shopify’s fulfillment record has separate fields for the tracking company, number and URL, and the URL is what makes the link work. Shopify may also guess the carrier from the format of a tracking number, which can pick the wrong one, so check the link before you rely on it.

Before you go live

Checklist for WhatsApp shipping updates

Run these six checks on one test order before you turn the flow on for every order. Each one prevents a message that fails or confuses the customer.

A working tracking link

Open the tracking link on a fulfilled test order. It should land on the right parcel.

Phone numbers with country codes

Numbers saved without a country code can fail. See WhatsApp error 131026.

A Utility template

Keep offers out of the update so Meta treats it as Utility. See utility vs marketing templates.

The delivery address

Include the shipping address so the customer can spot a wrong address before the parcel arrives.

Your customer’s language

Write the update in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Arabic or the language your customers use, with one template per language.

Shopify’s own emails

Decide whether Shopify’s shipping email stays on. Whapi doesn’t change it.

Cost

What a WhatsApp shipping update costs

A shipping update without promotions is a Utility message, which Meta charges per delivered message at the rate for the customer’s country. You pay Meta directly with no markup from Whapi. The full table is on the WhatsApp API pricing page.
