Abandoned cart WhatsApp message templates for Shopify
Copy these abandoned cart WhatsApp messages for a first reminder, a follow-up and a final offer. Each one works with the abandoned cart flow in Whapi, a Shopify app for WhatsApp automation, uses Shopify checkout variables and ends with an opt-out line, as Meta recommends for marketing messages.

Yes, UK orders placed before 2 pm usually arrive in 1 to 2 working days. Your cart is still saved at the link above.15:53
A first reminder. The shopper’s question opens a chat your team can answer.
The short answer
An abandoned cart WhatsApp message reminds a shopper who left checkout to finish the order, with a link back to their checkout.
Meta treats cart reminders as Marketing templates, even when the shopper asked for updates, so each one is charged at the Marketing rate: $0.1365 in Germany, $0.0635 in the UK and $0.0576 in Saudi Arabia (Meta rates effective October 1, 2026).
Send the first reminder about an hour after the checkout is abandoned and keep any discount for later.
WhatsApp needs a phone number, so collect one at checkout and get the shopper’s agreement to receive WhatsApp messages from your store.

Abandoned cart messages in German, French, Spanish and Italian
Reminders for stores selling in several countries with Shopify Markets, plus an Arabic version at the end. Meta doesn’t translate templates, so each language is a separate template. They are examples: ask a native speaker to check the wording before you submit a template to Meta.

When to send each abandoned cart reminder
Send the first abandoned cart WhatsApp message about an hour after the checkout is abandoned, a second about a day later, and stop after an optional third. Shopify only records a checkout as abandoned once it has stayed incomplete for more than 10 minutes after the customer entered their email, and in Whapi you set the delay for each message with “Send message after” in the flow.

Every extra reminder is another Marketing charge and another chance for the shopper to block your number, and blocks lower your number’s quality rating with Meta. Don’t tell shoppers their cart is about to expire: Shopify says you can’t disable or expire an abandoned checkout link after you send it, so the warning would be false.
Why abandoned cart messages are Marketing templates
Meta classifies abandoned cart reminders as Marketing, under its retargeting use case, and says they count as Marketing even if the shopper requested them. No rewording turns a cart reminder into a Utility template, and since April 9, 2025 Meta approves a template submitted as Utility as Marketing when it decides the content is promotional.
Two things follow from that:
You need the shopper’s agreement to receive messages from your store, as for any marketing message.
Meta may hold back marketing messages to people who receive many of them, and those fail with WhatsApp error 131049.
Each delivered reminder is charged at Meta’s Marketing rate for the country code of the shopper’s number. Marketing messages have no volume discount, Meta charges nothing for messages that aren’t delivered, and Whapi adds no markup.

Meta’s USD list rates per delivered message, effective October 1, 2026, checked October 20, 2026. Whapi adds no markup. Every country: WhatsApp API pricing by country.
For example, 1,000 reminders to shoppers in Germany cost $136.50 at the list rate, and 1,000 in Saudi Arabia cost $57.60. Compare that with the margin on the orders the flow brings back; Whapi shows those orders for each flow, so you can check with your own numbers. All countries are on the WhatsApp API pricing page.
Phone numbers and opt-in
A WhatsApp reminder needs a phone number on the checkout and the shopper’s agreement to hear from you. In Shopify, go to Settings, then Checkout. Under Customer contact method you can choose Phone number or email, or Email. Under Customer information you can set the shipping address phone number to Don’t include, Optional or Required. Optional and Required both collect numbers; Required guarantees one on every checkout that ships.
Meta’s opt-in rules ask you to state clearly that the person is agreeing to receive messages from your business, and to name the business. Meta accepts opt-in collected on your website, so a clear line at checkout can do this. Meta also recommends a separate opt-in for each message category and clear instructions for opting out, which is why every template here ends with a STOP line. Whapi counts Stop replies for each flow. To collect opt-ins before checkout, use the WhatsApp newsletter signup widget.
If you sell to shoppers in the EU or the UK, your opt-in also has to work under GDPR: say what you will send, keep a record of the agreement and act on STOP replies. See how Whapi handles GDPR and customer data.
Use discount codes without training shoppers to wait
Keep the discount for the last reminder, so shoppers who would have come back anyway still pay full price. A few habits keep codes under control:
Create the code in Shopify Discounts before the template goes live, with an end date.
Limit it to one use per customer.
Write the end date in the message and make it match the code’s real end date.
Keep discounts out of order confirmations and shipping updates: Meta treats an order update with a promotion as Marketing.
Measure recovered orders in Whapi
Each Whapi flow has its own analytics page with the orders and revenue it brought in, so you can see which reminder is worth its Meta fee. The page shows direct and assisted orders and revenue, Stop replies, messages sent, delivered and read, the delivery rate, and the template’s Meta status, category, quality and top block reasons.
Flow analytics in Whapi, including the category Meta gave the template.
If Stop replies or blocks climb after a change, go back to fewer reminders or softer wording. The abandoned cart recovery feature page explains the rest of the flow settings.
Abandoned cart template questions
Greet the shopper by first name, say they left something in their cart at your store, and give the link back to their checkout. A second reminder can add a reason to finish, such as delivery time or easy returns, and a final reminder can add a discount code. End every reminder with a simple way to stop, such as "Reply STOP to stop cart reminders."
A common sequence is a first reminder about an hour after the checkout is abandoned, a second about 24 hours later and an optional final reminder with a discount after 48 to 72 hours. Shopify only records a checkout as abandoned once it has been incomplete for more than 10 minutes after the customer entered their email, and in Whapi you set the delay for each message in the flow.
Marketing. Meta lists abandoned cart reminders under Marketing (retargeting) and says they are Marketing even if the shopper requested them, so rewording a reminder will not make it Utility. Each delivered reminder is charged at the Marketing rate, for example $0.1365 in Germany and $0.0635 in the United Kingdom (Meta rates effective October 1, 2026).
Yes. Meta requires that a person agreed to receive messages from your business, and the opt-in must clearly name your business. Meta accepts opt-in collected on your website, for example at checkout, as long as it meets both rules. Meta also recommends a separate opt-in for each message category, such as order updates and promotions, and clear instructions for opting out. Stores selling in the EU and the UK should also check that their opt-in meets GDPR.
Usually not. A discount in the first message gives away margin on shoppers who would have finished their order after a simple reminder. Keep the code for the last reminder, give it an end date and limit it to one use per customer in Shopify Discounts.
The checkout may have no phone number, the number may be missing its country code or not be on WhatsApp, or the template may not be approved yet. Meta can also choose not to deliver a marketing message to keep engagement healthy, which shows as error 131049. Meta only charges for messages that are delivered.
Each delivered reminder costs Meta's Marketing rate for the shopper's country: $0.1365 in Germany, $0.0635 in the United Kingdom, $0.0859 in France and $0.0576 in Saudi Arabia (USD list rates effective October 1, 2026). Marketing messages have no volume discount. You pay Meta directly and Whapi adds no markup.
Yes. Write the template in the shopper's language and set the Language of the Whapi flow to match; Meta does not translate templates, so each language is its own template. This page includes German, French, Spanish, Italian and Arabic examples. Keep discount codes and the STOP keyword exactly as written so shoppers can type them.
